You will serve as a DEPUTY AIRSPACE MANAGER in the FLEET AREA CONTROL AND SURVEILLANCE FACILITY of FACSFAC JAX.
Duties
You will attend, participate in, and chair all meetings related to Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility (FACSFAC).
You will prepare airspace proposals and participate in airspace related governing activities, environmental and land assessments, Letters of Agreement (LOA) with DOD/FAA/NASA, and Commercial Space/Aviation companies.
You will respond to data calls related to Special Use Airspace (SUA) utilization and/or justification.
You will initiate and draft naval messages and other correspondence relative to functions of the Airspace office.
You will represent the command at exercise scheduling conferences, Air Traffic Control (ATC) course rules briefs, and applicable meetings.
You will maintain currency of publications reference library and aeronautical charts.
You will conduct training lectures and briefings to military and civilian air traffic controllers and airspace users to enhance the knowledge and understanding of SUA guidelines, restrictions, and safety procedures.
You will ensure that Command Airspace Liaison Officers within FACSFAC’s regional area of responsibility are designated in writing per OPNAV 3770.2 and are familiar with their responsibilities and reporting procedures.
Requirements

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- Must be a graduate of an ACA1 or equivalent DoD or DOT Air Traffic Course.
- Must possess an ATCS Certificate (FAA Form 7220-1)
- Successful completion of the FAA Airman's Written Test (AWT).
Qualifications
To qualify for the DEPUTY AIRSPACE MANAGER GS-0301-12 position, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year (52 Weeks) of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience defining an area on a chart so availability of airspace can be determined, and conflicts resolved.
Experience with mathematical time/distance equations to figure elapsed times for moving ALTRVs and overlapping time for stationary ALTRVs.
Experience with and knowledge of Flight Information Publication (FLIP) planning publications, FLIP enroute chart legend information, and proficiency in reading and interpreting charts and maps including DMA navigation/planning and operating area charts to determine cognizant authority.
Experience preparing and formatting naval messages to acquire SUA and responding to requestor with approval, disapproval or modifications.
Experience with different naval messages to understand requests received.
Experience with and knowledge of procedures, rules and regulations governing flight within oceanic and domestic procedures airspace.
Experience with and knowledge of the OE/AAA process and proficiency in navigating and entering data into the associated Mission Capability Assessment Tool (MCAT) program.
Experience with national issues, including legislation which could impact current and planned airspace related initiatives.
