The incumbent serves as a cultural resource specialist for one or more parks where historical themes comprise a major part of the story. The park has predominantly historical resources are predominant, with significant historical themes and resources are present. Professional fields of study must be pertinent to the park's resources and themes.
Duties
Conducts research, including archival and oral history interviews, on the history of educational equity in the context of American Industrial History
Works collaboratively as part of the park interpretation, education, and visitor services team to inform visitors about American Industrial History
Contributes to park cultural resources programs, including planning, reports, and compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
Writes reports, presentations, and web content and delivers presentations at academic conferences and public gatherings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is sedentary, but at times requires travel to repositories of information, and may require visits to remote sites which require walking or riding over rough, uneven surfaces. Documentary research and report writing work is sedentary, entails the ability to concentrate and write for long periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Most work is performed in offices, archives, and libraries. Assignments may entail work with dusty records or objects.

Individual Occupational Requirements - Basic Requirements for History Series, 0170
Possession of a degree in history or closely related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.

Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education, such as research, writing, teaching, interpretation, or other demonstrable professional activity with an academic institution, historic organization or agency, museum, or other professional institution; or Substantial contribution through research and publication to the body of scholarly knowledge in the field of history.

To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).This experience includes activities such as: conducting historical research related to American Industrial, Immigration and Westward Expansion History; preparing reports based on research; conducting oral history interviews; planning long-range protection and management of cultural resources; utilizing computerized systems to process and analyze historic data; completing site description forms; and evaluating projects in accordance with NHPA and Section 106 compliance. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least at least three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in history from an accredited college or university. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
