Duties

You will possess apprehension/detention authority on a military installation and is required to carry a firearm in the performance of duties. You will operate alcohol and breath analysis equipment in accordance with law enforcement procedures. You will write reports to provide a description of facts surrounding a crime scene or incident. You will maintain compliance with procedures for detaining suspects. You will monitor unusual situations or conditions through personal or electronic surveillance aids. You will Investigate circumstances or individuals that appear unusual or suspicious to prevent crime. You will write sworn statements from witnesses, and transcribe statements from complainants, witnesses, and suspects for inclusion in a case file.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must be a U.S. Citizen; pass a National Agency Check and local background check. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance. Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid state driver's license and be able to maintain a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operator's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or Final Secret security Clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Work includes assignment to rotating shift, including weekends and holidays. Subject to 24-hour recall and maintain 24-hour recall notification number. Call back and emergency overtime required. Overtime may be required.

Qualifications

GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-04) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Apprehending personnel by the use of force or police equipment (i.e., firearms, taser, Oleoresin Capsicum(OS)spray); 2) Preparing police reports concerning incidents and actions taken; and 3) Responding to emergency calls for service while adhering to state and federal laws. GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: responding to calls for police assistance and emergency help, enforcing traffic laws and issuing citations for violations such as speeding; conducting traffic stops and vehicle searches, subduing and restraining individuals, assisting accident victims by providing first aid, and writing reports of incident. GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: maintaining order and protecting life and property; responding to emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service during the watch; subduing and disarming those who are doing violence to other persons; conducting investigative stops; gathering and analyzing facts; seizing and protecting evidence; interviewing witnesses and taking statements; conducting preliminary investigations; advising violators of rights; processing accident scene; determining whether facts warrant apprehension/detention or lesser action, and presenting evidence in court. Education

No substitution of education or training may be made for the required specialized experience at the GS-06 level or above.

GS-05:Successfully completing a four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.
