About the Position serves a Medical Supply Technician. This position is located in various departments of the branch health clinics in Beaufort, South Carolina. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

- Determines correct method for pre-sterilizing. - Removes soil, blood, tissue fragments, body fluids, and other gross contaminants by wiping, soaking, rinsing, scrubbing, and use of ultrasonic equipment for bur blocks. - Loads and operates washer/disinfectors. - Removes items from washer/ disinfectors, examines items to insure that gross contamination has been removed. - Determines appropriate method for cleaning and sterilizing the equipment, operates sterilizers, and stores and issues the equipment. - Advises medical personnel on the proper use of the equipment and on problems that arise in connection with its use. - Distribute instrument packs and supplies to clinic staff and maintain custody documentation for hand piece motors. - Maintains appropriate log books.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes an understanding of the basic principles of microbiology; an understanding of dental and surgical terminology, therapeutic procedures, and of human anatomy and physiology; knowledge of aseptic principles and techniques; and knowledge of aseptic principles and techniques including, characteristics of various types of detergents, cleaning techniques, sterilizing mediums, sterilizer operation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS- 05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
