The primary function of this position is to serve as Laundry Machine Operator WG-3 for the Laundry Section, Facility Management Service at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS), San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Receiving soiled linen, unloading trailers, dumping bags on sort conveyor, bagging and storing soiled linen.
Operate soiled linen cart wash.
Loading capacity tumblers.
Make daily inspection tot he chemical storage area to ensure proper function of the pumping system and usage of chemical supplies.
Process lab test pieces.
Collect and distribute textiles during time of needs, emergencies or by instructions from the immediate supervisor.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 2:30 pm rotating weekend and holiday

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Must be able to pull linen carts weighing over 500 pounds routinely. Must lift bundles of linen weighing over 60 pounds routinely. Requires frequent walking, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting.
Working Conditions: Work area is very noisy, usually hot and humid. Some areas exposed to wet flooring and or airborne lint. Varying temperature changes when working at dock areas. Exposure to foul orders, harsh chemicals and potentially contaminated linen.
