This position is within the State Aviation office (SAO) and is located at the Houston Army Aviation Support Facility, Ellington Field JRB, Houston, Texas. The purpose of this position is to serve as shop chief over a small organizational segment in the Logistics function of the Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) with responsibility for the overall shop operation. Oversees and directs the work of one or more Sheet Metal Mechanics (Aircraft), WG-3806-10, who are assigned to the shop.

Duties

As a SHEET METAL MECHANIC (SMALL SHOP CHIEF) (TITLE 32) with the Texas Army National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to: Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop, which is then completed, by the incumbent and lower graded mechanic(s). Determines approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures. Estimates time, equipment and material requirements. Devises and maintains plans and records. Provides recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, and leave. Performs the full range of shop work. Perform in-process, final inspection, and clear status symbols certifying work performed by others in shop. Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures that other workers in the shop wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. Prepares for, and participates in, various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. Perform additional duties such as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment. Serves as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements: WG - Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double or grooved seams. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify at the WG-11 grade level, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment experience reflecting the following: Experience or training in planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams. Experience using more complicated shop tools and equipment. Experience in using metals including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material and alloys. Experience demonstrating the use of more complicated mathematical calculations and complicated measuring instruments. Must have the ability to plan and accomplish a functional shop maintenance program and have the skill in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques. Quality of Experience: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated based on duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position. MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a military assignment in the Texas Army National Guard (TXARNG) and wear of the military uniform.
