This position is located within the Maintenance Branch at the United States Bullion Depository of the United States Mint. The United States Bullion Depository located in Ft. Knox, Kentucky is completely self-sufficient. This position is a combined position. Duties will include janitorial services, basic facility maintenance, operating a motor vehicle and stocking supplies throughout the building.

Duties

As a General Service Worker, you will: Serve as a building service worker and provides a variety of building service tasks using cleaning methods, chemical handling procedures, and proper equipment operation and maintenance. Clean areas within the building(s) using brooms, mops, buckets, heavy duty vacuums and buffers and scrubbers; adjust and clean equipment and change brushes, rollers, buffers and other attachments; dust, scrub, sweep, wax and polish horizontal and vertical surfaces such as floors and walls. Operate gas self-propelled ride-on and other equipment and performs full range of operator-level maintenance of equipment including inspection of fluid levels, tire pressures, and general inspection of equipment priory to operation. Operate, in accordance with the manual and United States Bullion Depository procedures, various controls associated with the equipment and monitors engine condition during operation taking appropriate action when indicated by the controls or equipment performance. Independently place, store, maintain, and oversee certain types of hazardous materials such as toxic chemicals, pesticides, flammables, and some explosives, ammunition, and radioactive materials in accordance with regulatory and other safety requirements. Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, steps, driveways and parking areas by applying ice melting chemical and/or by using powered or hand snow removal equipment; replace blown light bulbs; erect folding tables, chairs, etc., Assist with building management task as required, such as cleaning offices, exhibit space, restrooms, corridors, storage rooms, stairways or any area.

Physical effort could also include changing a tire and making limited emergency repairs on vehicle. Mowing the grass and snow removal requires physical efforts in various types of weather.
