The purpose of this position in this organization is to perform and maintain a variety of warehousing duties required in the maintenance of the store rooms for supplies, equipment and materials for the support of the hospital and the entire Service Unit. The position reports to the Materials Handler Supervisor.

Duties

Receives, unloads, selects, processes, and stores incoming shipments. Assembles items into groups, separate supplies according to such factors as condition of shipment, type of shipment, or property class and routes along appropriate processing lines. Routes supplies not requiring inspection to proper storage or to the designated organization units, and items or equipment to be reshipped to shipping or packing activities. Inspects all capitalized and non-capitalized equipment for damages, assist in tagging all equipment with proper tags, records all equipment in proper records, and to respective locations. Retrieves and stores all for proper disposals. Select general items for shipment or issue items ready for shipment and properly assembled in the loading area. Check the condition of shipping containers prior to loading; and sees that shipments are properly loaded onto the right conveyances. Informs supervisor of slow-moving items and advises of items reading re-order points according to established procedures. Maintains tight security of storerooms and other storage areas and keeps them clean at all times, Stocked in an orderly and organized manner. Maintains stock levels of self-service storage areas. Other duties as assigned, which include delivery and picking up all hospitals postal mail, hospital commodities and BPA orders.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: There is no specific length of training or experience required, however, applicants will be rated on the basis of their responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision, and the information contained in their resume. Your resume must demonstrate experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: working independently in a wide range of warehousing activities, including receiving, storing, selecting, and shipping general or specialized bulk materials and equipment; independently load and unload materials check, assemble, and process documents, and route materials and equipment to correct locations; prepare shipping and inventory documents with required data for manual or automated inventory systems; and operate warehouse fork lift and passenger truck or van. Physical Effort: Incumbent is often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended period of time, and to bend, stoop and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items that weight up to 40 pounds. The heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Working Conditions: Work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Materials handlers are regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapers, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. When working in hazardous materials areas, they may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes. Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
