You will serve as a Exhibits Specialist in the Naval History and Heritage Command of NAVAL UNDERSEA MUSEUM. This position is located at the Puget Sound Navy Museum (PSNM) in Bremerton, WA

Duties

You will be responsible for the overall presentation of Puget Sound Navy Museum ’s interpretive message in exhibits, displays, and audio-visual programs. You will be assisting the Exhibit Preparatory and Curator(s) with exhibit development, maintenance, and repair. You will conduct exhibit research, development, and budget formulation. You will plan and design and/or supervise the contracted planning and design of all museum exhibits at the Puget Sound Navy Museum. You will provide exhibit planning and scheduling information for museum’s plan of action and milestone tracking. You will build and install all types of exhibits and/or supervise the building and installation of exhibits by contractors. You will provide preventive maintenance and repair to all exhibits at the Puget Sound Navy Museum.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector using knowledge of exhibit design and fabrication, museum exhibit methodology and standards incorporating physical, digital, analog visitor experiences to perform the following duties: 1) Designing, fabricating, or installing, new and maintaining exhibits for an American Alliance of Museums (AAM) accredited Museum; 2) Creating exhibit drawings using software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Auto CAD, and/or other commercial design software; 3) Collaboratively working on a museum exhibit team; 4) Assisting in exhibit development, maintenance, and upgrades; 5) Assisting in the daily operations within permanent galleries and temporary exhibit spaces; 6) Using knowledge of exhibit materials, fabrication processes, artifact display standards including off-gassing, light levels, metal, and Plexiglas to safely present valuable artifacts. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

You must have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a major study such as illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position.

OR

Have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a major study such as illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position.

OR

Have successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled in a major study such as illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position.

OR

Have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
