About the Position: Perform a variety of operation and maintenance duties at a flood control project consisting of multiple dams structures, gates, spillways, and appurtenant structures, electrical systems, and mechanical systems.

Duties

Perform a variety of painting, carpentry, and plumbing tasks. Construct, alter, repair, and modify wood structures or components such as building framework, doors, windows, trim, and paneling. Work from plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation of systems and equipment. Accomplish a number of varying tasks related to maintenance and repair of automotive equipment, air conditioning systems, heating systems, electrical systems, and masonry. Install, adjust, and repair motors, blowers, pilots, igniters, and thermostatic control devices. Install, modify, and repair new and existing water and sewage systems, water closets, and showers. Operate various heavy equipment to push, pull, pile, or load materials such as sand, gravel, earth, or refuse and to clear brush, tree stumps, and rocks. Operate a motorboat (less 26 feet) in all seasons and in all weather.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain all Corps of Engineers licenses associated with this position.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a current Corps of Engineers motorboat operator's license including all requirements of the District Licensing Policy.
  • Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to perform duties of position issued by the state of residence.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment.
  • Heavy physical lifting is required of this position.
  • Incumbent is required to wear the appropriate uniform for this position.
  • Incumbent may be required to perform wildfire suppression duties.
  • Must be able to perform all duties in all weather conditions, e.g., extreme cold.

I am skilled in operating a flood control facility and experienced in determining and calculating water releases for flood control purposes. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. Physical Efforts: Incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements of this position as identified in the position description. Duties include, but are not limited, to climbing ladders and steep stairways and working on steep and uneven ground. Incumbent must be capable of lifting at least 50 lbs. unassisted or up to 100 lbs. with the assistance of one other person. Tasks requiring the ability to lift 50 lbs. while working alone include, but are not limited, to lifting and carrying a 50-lb bag of seed, gravel, or stone and lifting and carrying a 5-gallon can of kerosene, paint, cleaning liquid, or hydraulic oil. Tasks requiring the ability to lift to 100 lbs. with the assistance of one other person include, but are not limited, to moving furniture and lifting 80-lb. bags of cement. Working Conditions: Incumbent works in a variety of conditions. Work is completed on, but not limited, to scaffolding, high ladders, or rooftops subject to dangers such as, but not limited to, falling, possibility of burns, cuts, bruises, broken bones, or infections. Works inside and outside while exposed to all weather conditions to perform duties including, but not limited, to surveillance of project, various inspections, operations and maintenance of equipment, boundary marking, special events, and emergency situations (respond to public accidents, drownings, etc.). Incumbent must be capable or working in conditions of dust, welding fumes, paint vapors, and sandblast particles utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment for those conditions, which may be heavy and uncomfortable.
