Duties
As a GS-0401 Biologist (Research), your duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Serves as an expert in providing authoritative advice and consultation for more difficult, complex, or unique experimental procedures.
Apply new scientific/technical developments and theories to experimental research. Troubleshoot problems with equipment or experimental techniques and independently develop methods to resolve these difficulties.
Teach complex laboratory techniques to post-docs, post-bacs, visiting scientists and other technical staff.
Collaborate with the Senior Investigator to work on projects, methods and equipment that aids in meeting the lab's research goals.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

- Biologist are required to use protective clothing such as lab coats, goggles, gloves and must follow all Universal Safety precautions.
- The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing and walking, bending over instruments and equipment, and lifting light to moderately heavy items such as various supplies and equipment.
Qualifications
In order to qualify for a Biologist (Research), GS-0401 position, you must have:
A. completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university;
OR
B. a combination of experience and education which includes courses comparable to a major in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to this position, AND appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position.
In addition, in order to qualify for a Biologist, GS-0401 position at the GS-12 level, you must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: developing, planning, and implementing scientific biologic research; collecting, studying, developing, assembling, and/or analyzing factual scientific data; developing and preparing comprehensive reports, analytical interpretations, conclusions, or recommendations, typically for scientific publication; and calibrating and operating sophisticated laboratory instruments to conduct tests and analyses..
