This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, Position Description Number NGD1295000 and is part of CSMS 1. This is a permanent Title 32, Excepted service position.
AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION:
- Title 32 Dual Status Technician (DST): permanent employee (tenure group 1, 2 or 3) of the South Dakota Army National Guard
- Title 5 National Guard Employee (NGE): permanent employee (tenure group 1, 2 or 3) with military membership in the South Dakota Army National Guard
Duties
As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, WS-5801-15, you will:
This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The purpose of this position is to provide overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions. Participates with management officials in the planning and establishment of long-range work requirements and schedules. Serves as the highest-level subject matter expert in the organization for work accomplished. Work activities and functions are typically controlled through two or more levels of supervision. The occupation and non-supervisory grade level which best reflects the nature of the overall work operations supervised is Surface Maintenance Mechanic, WG-5801-11.

- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

Qualifications
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: CW4 and above are eligible to apply. Military grade inversion within the full-time work force is not permitted. The military grade of the full time supervisor must equal or exceed the military grade of personnel supervised.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 36 months experience in the KSAs listed. In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.

- Knowledge of human resources management policy matters affecting maintenance management, with personnel actions affecting key employees to include experience coordinating work forces and resources and negotiating with management or clients concerning problems.
