Duties

Screen victims of domestic violence, evaluate needs, and provide them with information about services available to them. Maintain current information on resources and services and advise victims before disclosure of the limited confidentiality rule. Conduct initial intake services for suspected Spouse/Intimate Partner domestic violence. Make the appropriate referrals and follow up actions. Reports all suspected child abuse or neglect cases and domestic violence cases to appropriate law enforcement and medical treatment facilities and child protection services. Promote Domestic Violence Prevention through community meetings and public education. Coordinate with case manager during development of appropriate plan of assistance/intervention, providing for the safety of the victim and their family members.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Temporary duty travel of 5% may be required.
• Will participate in 24-hour rotation emergency coverage. However, the Victim Advocate will not be on-call for 2 or more consecutive weeks at one time.
• A Childcare National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Background Investigation is required.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing professional advocacy services to victims or survivors of domestic violence, conducting assessments with clients to evaluate needs and risks; recognizing the need for professional intervention and referring client to appropriate services; maintaining partnerships in the community, and conducting training/seminars on domestic violence. OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Behavioral or Social Science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
