About the Position:Serves as an Investigator for Defense Litigation within the U.S. Army Trial Defense Service (USATDS) Division for The Judge Advocate General, U.S. Army (TJAG), with responsibility for providing legal advice and related services throughout the Department of the Army in the area of military justice.

Duties

Provide investigative support to military defense counsel assigned to defend service members facing a wide variety of charges at courts-martial such as murder, sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence, and other serious offense. Perform investigative tasks, including crime scene investigation, photography, interviews, evidence collection, and evidence analysis for detailed defense counsel. Assist military defense counsel in developing case theory and strategy for trial preparing a defense case for service members at courts martial. Conduct interviews of witnesses and/or law enforcement personnel and prepare written statements for assigned defense counsel. Conduct an expert analysis of the defense case to continue to develop the facts.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Possible TDY to hazardous duty/combat locations may be required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes interviewing witnesses and/or law enforcement personnel for counsel of record; investigating to obtain case material in defense of clients; compiling or analyzing case evidence and/or documentation for hearings and/or trials, and providing expert testimony in court and/or preliminary hearings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Interpersonal SkillsOral CommunicationPlanning and EvaluatingProblem SolvingTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
