This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Salem VA Medical Center (VAMC), in the Utility Section of Facility Management Service. The purpose of this position is to perform and lead work installing, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, or relocating equipment on various special-purpose air conditioning units and systems on the Salem VA.
Duties
Install, troubleshoot, repair, modify, or relocate equipment on various special-purpose air conditioning units and systems on the Salem VA station.
Serve as a working leader over a number of employees performing as Air Conditioning Equipment Operators and Mechanics.
Utilize complex test equipment to accurately diagnose various mechanical, electrical and HVAC issues with facilities equipment and performing calibrations as necessary to application VA, national and international standards.
Control and/or make adjustments to the HVAC systems including troubleshooting and replacing failed equipment.
Pass on to other workers instructions received from the Supervisor, starts work by assigning the immediate tasks to individual members of the work group.
Ensure needed plans, material, blueprints and tools are available from multiple locations and/or computer programs.
Check on work in progress, for compliance with procedures and regulations, and makes sure deadlines and schedules are met.
Answer workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and demonstrates proper work methods.
Provide information to the supervisor on the progress of work, causes of delays and the overall status of work operations and problems.
Assure all tools and equipment are used properly and safely and housekeeping rules are adhered to.
Perform complex balancing of systems to provide specific temperature and humidity to critical climate conditions in different locations, such as laboratories, operating rooms, nuclear medicine labs, computer rooms, ICU and CCU areas, morgue coolers, walk-in boxes, blood banks, clinics, offices and wards.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:45 AM - 4:30 PM
Must have the Flexibility to work outside the normal tour of duty which may include weekends and holidays
