About the Position: This is a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist, GS-0018-07 position with promotion potential to GS-12; may be filled at any grade level. for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Tulsa District, Operations Division, located in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Duties

Reviews structures in process of construction to assure inclusion of safety features. Investigate accidents or review accident reports to evaluate the adequacy of corrective actions required. Conducts on-site surveys of construction, maintenance, and public use areas to evaluate programs and make recommendations to control hazards and compliance with prescribed safety requirements. Provide safety education and training to personnel to relay the impact of potential risks and importance of adequate safety practices. Assists design and construction engineers in the application of safety and fire codes and safety engineering standards.

OR Superior Academic Achievement: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields OR degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology with Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields, or master's or equivalent graduate degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
