You will serve as a PIPEFITTER in the Pipe Shop (Code 956), Production Resources Department of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will assist with or perform work including laying out, cutting, bending, assembling, brazing, fabricating, installing, and testing pipe fittings, fixtures, shop and ship assemblies and piping sections.
You will construct or maintain high- and low-pressure steam, distilling, evaporating, hydraulic, air, salt water, oxygen and oil line systems, secondary and potable water systems, etc. aboard ship.
You will locate and repair leaks in shipboard piping systems, test and flush ship's systems.
You will use blueprints, sketches, and the normal tools associated with the trade.
Requirements

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
Qualifications

Installing and operating various system valves to obtain proper flow.
Reading blueprints, process instructions, and other technical directives.
Operating the tools of the pipefitter trade (i.e. pipe bending machines, hydraulic saw, portable end prep machines, test and circulating pumps).
Performing layout of work, making templates, and setting up tools.
