This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located at US Army Medical Activity Blanchfield Army Community Hospital on Fort Campbell.
Duties
Identifies any referrals, assessments, evaluations, life skills, interventions, preparatory activities, and assistive technology from which the Soldier may benefit.
Updates care plan using re-evaluation results, COTA feedback, interdisciplinary discussions, and Soldier report.
Evaluates Soldier’s ability to complete basic and instrumental activities of daily living (ADL, IADL) for purposes of Traumatic
Service members’ Group Life Insurance (TSGLI) and Non-medical attendant (NMA) applications.
Prepares proposals for purchase of equipment, supplies, and, items and actively participates in research activities related to Soldier care.
Identifies outcomes, monitors them for quality assurance, and briefs SRU Commander on desired metrics.
Conducts functional capacity evaluations as interdisciplinary treatment team (IDT) determines the need for information related to Medical Readiness Decision Point (MRDP).
Educates work site supervisors about the therapy/reintegration process, SRU program goals, and the Soldier’s goals, abilities, and needs.
Serves a member of the interdisciplinary team involving individuals inside and outside of the SRU to plan, direct, coordinate, and assess Soldier care plans and the progress.
Requirements
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- May be required to be available by telephone or pager to promptly provide consultation and intervention.
- This position requires travel away from duty station, TDY 10%. Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- Incumbent must qualify for and maintain credentials in the Department of Rehabilitation.
- Must maintain credentials as an Occupational Therapist and Registered/Licensed (OTR/L) including certification through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and State licensure through the appropriate licensing board.
- Incumbent must possess a Degree in Occupational Therapy from an American Council on Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) accredited School of Occupational Therapy (no exceptions).

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Occupational Therapist (Rehab):
Degree: A graduate (or higher level) degree that included an occupational therapy curriculum approved by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained, and completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school.
Certification: Applicants must have passed the national examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0631 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) assisting in development of individualized care plans that align with goals and missions for personnel (2) providing holistic and comprehensive evaluation for wounded, ill, and injured personnel for an organization; AND (3) informing work site supervisors about therapy/reintegration process for personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
