This is a Term Appointment, initial appointment is not to exceed 13 months . Term Appointments may be extended up to a total of 4 years.
Duties
This job opportunity is for a Pipefitter and is located in the Facilities Operations Unit, Facilities Management Section, Support Services Branch (SSB) of the U.S. Census Bureau's National Processing Center (NPC). The purpose of this position is to provide steam fitting, operating engineer duties, and occasional Boiler Relief operating duties. This position is included in the bargaining unit.
The individual selected for this position will:
Install, modify, and repair new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as steam heating, steam generation, hydraulic systems, steam generators, flash and expansion tanks, condensate, vacuum, circulating pumps, and radiators;
Work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of various piping systems and equipment;
Locate problems in high- and low-pressure piping systems and equipment;
Participate in maintaining an inventory including make, model, or other identifiers as well as stock on hand of parts/supplies equipment used in the work;
Operate forklift and load/unload trucks when needed and operate Scissor lift s and articulating boom lifts to make repairs to equipment and systems.
Provide Boiler Relief Operator duties during steam production season;
TOUR OF DUTY: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. An Alternate Work Schedule will be available aft er 6 months. Alternate Work Schedule is an 80-hour biweekly basic work requirement that is scheduled in less than 10 days; i.e., eight 9-hourdays/nights, one 8-hour day/night, and one day off. Positions may include evening or weekend work, hours will vary.
