About the position: This position will be assigned to the Eglin AFB Golf Course. Pest controller at this level requires the ability to plan and perform seasonal gardening and grounds maintenance duties associated with the golf course. They will be required to use moto vehicles and tractors.

Duties

Uses suitable Integrated Pest Management (IPM) control methods to reduce and control hazards to public health, stored products, structures, and vegetation. Independently plans work sequences and conducts trouble-shooting inspections of buildings and grounds for evidence of conditions conductive to damage and infestation by insects, rodents, predatory animals, and other pests. Exercises a high degree of responsibility to assure a variety of hazardous pesticides are mixed and applied in accordance with applicable Federal and State requirements. Coordinates with facility engineering and management personnel concerning 1PM control procedures including structural, sanitary, and plant pest control. Operates a variety of power and hand operated applicators in applying pesticides, fungicides fertilizers, etc. Performs operator maintenance on pest control equipment and ensures it is always in a safe condition. Coordinates the stock levels of pest control materials with the golf course supply technician to ensure adequate supplies are on hand to meet seasonal, peak, and emergency situations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must know Federal and State laws and requirements which deal with the mixing, application, and disposal of restricted use pesticides, such as the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). Must be able to satisfy the competency certification criteria outlined in 40 CFR Part 171- Certification of Pesticide Applicators within first year of appointment. A degree in Turf Management is desirable. Must have experience in the advanced principles and procedures of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) including chemical control, precise surveys, and parasite and predator usage. Skill in pesticide and toxic chemical disposal including the proper use of safety procedures. Must possess a valid operator's permit for motorized equipment used at the Golf Course. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 background investigation.
