About the Position: Sierra Army Depot located in Herlong CA. Employees work a 4/10 work week, Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and daily childcare available. Duties

Observe the operation of heating systems to identify malfunctions in automatic controls, converters, piping, and pumps. Operate computer-controlled testing equipment to troubleshoot gyroscopic and accelerometer instruments. Perform diagnostic checks on electronic control devices to determine source of malfunctions in power boilers. Interpret technical publications in order to test, repair, and calibrate equipment. Diagnose malfunctions to determine needed repairs in electrical components. Adjust fuel feeds to achieve maximum combustion efficient with changing load demands.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position may require travel up to 5% of the time for business purposes.
  • Obtain and maintain a Personnel Background Investigation (NACI).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work on an intermittent or unscheduled, on-call basis.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain universal technician certification as required by section 608 CAA 1990, 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F within the first year of employment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Utility Systems Repairer-Operator (Direct Hiring Authority) ~ without more than normal supervision including performing diagnostic checks on electronic control devices to determine source of malfunctions in power boilers, determining chemicals needed to stabilize fluctuating water conditions in the boiler, and adjusting fuel feeds to achieve maximum combustion efficient with changing load demands. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort-Work involves repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 40 pounds or more. Working Conditions-The operator works in the constant high temperatures from the boilers. He is exposed to the danger of boiler bursts; carbon monoxide poisoning; scalds; and gas or oil fumes. Cuts, bruises and broken bones may result from accident while working around machinery and equipment.
