Serves as a Senior Faculty Development Specialist in the Faculty Development (FD) division under the Directorate of Educational Technology & Development (ETD) at the Presidio of Monterey. The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) offers foreign language instruction in more than 13 languages. This role involves leading the development and implementation of comprehensive faculty development programs that enhance teaching effectiveness and support the mission.
Duties
Conducts needs assessments to determine faculty development needs in line with the most current best practices in FLED.
Participates in the development and implementation of dynamic and transformative face-to-face, interactive, and online foreign language teacher education courses and programs to support the mission and meet and professional development needs.
Establishes measurable guidelines for participants’ successful progress in professional development courses as specified by the course objectives; observes classes and provides feedback.
Effectively applies instructional technology to support design and delivery of pedagogically-sound language workshops and maintains digital archives with workshop plans and materials.
Performs a variety of administrative tasks including course management and communication across UGE and CE.

This position is a TERM time limited position tenure track. The initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 12 months, 1 day, and may be extended upon mission, funding and management discretion.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant work experience and education level (degree and year awarded); official transcripts/foreign transcript evaluation will be requested upon selection.
Must be able to speak, read and write in one additional language fluently. Preferred languages: Russian, Chinese, Korean, Persian-Farsi, or French.
Must be able to speak, read and write in English fluently.
Assistant Professor:
Bachelor's degree with a major or minor in second language acquisition, foreign language education, Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language (TESOL/TEFL), applied linguistics, curriculum and instruction for foreign language education, or related field. (NOTE: Attach a copy of your transcripts for verification).
AND
At least two years of relevant professional expertise or experience and demonstrate significant contributions to a program or the field in two or more of the following core areas:
Foreign language teaching
Foreign language faculty development
Foreign language program management
Evaluating and improving foreign language faculty development
if selected, applicant must pass a language proficiency test (OPI).
LANGUAGE EVALUATION: The minimum English proficiency is a Level 3 in speaking. The minimum proficiency for one additional language to be taught is a Level 2 in speaking. The proficiency levels are defined by the Inter-agency Language Round table (ILR) level descriptions and can be viewed at http://www.govtilr.org. Failure of any portion of the language tests will disqualify applicants for a period of 6 months. Applicants may re-apply against an open vacancy announcement after 6 months if they wish to be considered again. If selected again, retesting is allowed only once.
You must submit a 300-word HANDWRITTEN essay in one additional language. Preferred Languages: Russian, Chinese, Korean, Persian-Farsi, or French. You must also include a 300-word HANDWRITTEN English translation of the essay. Essay topic is how your background, education and training has prepared you for the language curriculum specialist position. NOTE: Typed essays are NOT acceptable. The essay is not used to evaluate work experience, only for the purpose of evaluating the language writing proficiency.
