About the Position: The Information Technology Specialist (Policy and Planning) position is located at the US Army Dental Command Central Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Duties
Serves as an Information System Specialist.
Responsible for the total management of the IM/IT systems requirements
Installs and configures network software and equipment.
Manages system change requests, operations, connectivity, technical standards implementation, software/hardware upgrade management, integration of new dental systems, and managing the interfaces to these new systems.
Functions as a project leader and technical consultant for DHC- W.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment may occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- The position requires Information Assurance (IA) Management Level II (IAM-2) certification. Appointment must acquire this certification within six months of entering on duty IAW DoD 8570.1-M.
- Appointment may be required to travel away from the normal duty station on an infrequent basis up to 15% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service which includes assisting in the development of local IT policy or procedures implementing guidance; coordinating the acquisition of IT software, hardware, and systems; participating in risk assessments, and program planning; and coordinating the configuration, install, and maintenance of software, or hardware. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Business Administration or Health Care Administration.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
