Duties

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, Associate Director for Administration, Management Support Division, Security Branch in Sterling, VA. At the full performance level (GS-13) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: - Directs and coordinates the vetting and adjudication of the suitability/fitness of applicants, employees, contractors, and others. Locates and examines existing records of reports. Applies pertinent regulations and guidelines to determine suitability/fitness and eligibility for entry and retention in national security positions, public trust positions, and low risk positions with BSEE and the bureaus, offices, and government agencies that are serviced by BSEE. - Makes adjudicative determinations, using the appropriate criteria, to grant employees access to national security information, resources, material, or facilities in accordance with the provisions contained in Security Executive Agent Directive 4, and Executive Orders 10450, 12958 and/or 12968. - Prepares and executes nondisclosure agreements. Ensures that employees granted national security clearances are briefed and aware of their responsibilities for accounting for and protecting classified materials. Transmits confirmation of national security clearances for employees. Prepares and issues visitor certifications. Authorizes employees to courier classified documents as appropriate. - Prepares and submits requests for access for to Secure Compartmentalized Information through the Office of Law Enforcement and Security, on behalf of Bureau and Department personnel whose position requires access to said information. -Works independently to analyze and evaluate the authenticity and pertinence of investigative results that may contain conflicting information and/or derogatory information and prepare oral and/or written reports, decisions, conclusions, or recommendations that are logically organized, clear, concisely written, and unbiased. Can be expected to present their work to all levels of audience, including Bureau and Department executive/political leadership. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. Salary Information GS-13: $117,962 (Step 1) - $149,422 (Step 10) per annum. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level. This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position you must meet the Specialized Experience for the series to which you are applying. Specialized Experience To qualify for the GS-13, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: Adjudicating National Security investigations Briefing candidates for their National Security Clearance Inputting, editing and processing information in the bureau's personnel security case management systems, databases, and spreadsheets. Ensures that this information is accurate. Updates external data systems (e.g., DCSA's CVS/PIPS) to reflect adjudicative outcomes, updated security clearance status, RapBack enrollment, etc. Must meet all.
