This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Work with key blanks and lock codes.
Apply knowledge of internal structure and operating characteristics.
Select tools appropriate for all jobs assigned by supervisor or work lead.
Independently applies standard trade practices in several locking mechanisms.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires incumbent to work an on-call work schedule to respond to after-hours emergencies. This may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials, that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Locksmith Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Locksmith Worker duties such as lubricating and cleaning parts with appropriate lubricants and solvents; straighten bent parts; smooth burrs and scratches; replace defective parts; perform operational tests; and/or reinstall locking devices. I can perform installation of locking mechanisms, or rekeying of locking devices. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Work at this level seldom requires lifting or carry of items weighing in excess of 40 lbs. The employee frequently stands, stoops, bends, kneels, and works in awkward positions when installing and opening locks and emergency exit hardware on-site.
Working Conditions: Work at this level is normally done inside in areas that are well lighted, heated, and ventilated. Occasionally, work is done outside in bad weather or in areas that are drafty and poorly lighted. The employee is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises.
