These positions are located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), El Paso Field Division, Alpine Resident Office. These position(s) primary purpose are to receive, document, store, and dispose of non-drug evidence and/or bulk marijuana for a Field Division.

Duties

As an Evidence Custodian, your typical work assignments may include: Receiving, documents, stores, and disposes of non-drug evidence and/or bulk marijuana for a Field Division. Receiving and filing seized evidence from special agents and diversion investigators. Developing information, identifying interrelation ships, and taking action consistent with evidence control goals. Interpreting and adapting existing guidelines, regulations, and other documents issued by headquarters to a variety of evidence control situations. Creating and maintaining automated records of evidence and vault inventory. Creating and producing bar code labels on all items for chain of custody tracking.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

  • Incumbent might be required to work other than normal duty hours (after hours, occasional overtime, and may be subject to calls after hours).
  • Work requires standing for a long period of time; walking through large warehouse space; climbing ladders; reaching, stretching, bending and using physical exertion when lifting and/or relocation evidence and packages weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Incumbent might be required to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all of the required qualification requirements described below by the closing of this announcement. If you are qualifying based on education or if there are mandatory education requirements listed below, you MUST submit a copy of your college transcript with your application. Applicants applying for the GS-7 must meet one of the following requirements: A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-6 grade level. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Receiving documents, storing and disposing of non-drug evidence and/or bulk marijuana; 2) Performing seized evidence control duties that follow established guidelines; 3) Creating and maintaining automated records of evidence and vault inventory; 4) Producing bar code labels on all items for chain of custody tracking. Applicants applying for the GS-8 must meet one of the following requirements: A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-7 grade level. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Receiving documents, storing and disposing of non-drug evidence and/or bulk marijuana; 2) Performing seized evidence control duties that follow established guidelines; 3) Creating and maintaining automated records of evidence and vault inventory; 4) Producing bar code labels on all items for chain of custody tracking; 5) Participating in and preparing for required inspections by coordinating with senior official to identify/solicit volunteers to conduct the inspection, retrieving electronic reports. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
