About the Position: Serves as Museum Director of the National Mounted Warrior Museum, responsible for the administration, management, and direction of the museum.

Duties

Establishes policy and procedures for the operation of the museum. Exercises control responsibility over rare and valuable graphic, pictorial, and artifactitious items on display and in storage. Responsible for the acquisition of historical information, artifacts and for the implementation of appropriate collection policies. Assures compliance with safety, security, and other applicable military regulations and federal laws. Determines and plans for the nature and scope of museums projects and activities. Develops plans for the continued growth, development, and maintenance of a balanced collection of artifacts and exhibits

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is a supervisory position within General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation may be required unless already served.
  • Business travel, incumbent expected to travel TDY 10% of the time.
  • This position has an irregular tour of duty and may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, and in other situations.

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field such as Museum Studies or American History. (Transcripts required at the time of application.) OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Transcripts required at the time of application.) OR C. Experience : Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four year course of study as shown in A above. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Administering Museum programs and policies; 2) Planning, implementing and administering a collection program; 3) Performing managerial administrative oversight and assign work; 4) Promoting social and public interest within the community. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
