About the Position: This position is located at the Directorate of Executive, Deputy Commander for Quality and Safety at Tripler Army Medical Center, which is on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii.
Advance in Hire may be authorized. This is only available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
Duties
Respond to calls and visitors from all levels in the office.
Review all incoming mail for superiors consisting of correspondence, reports, hospital regulations, inspection reports, reports
of survey, directives, and other material as related to the management of the hospital.
Edit outgoing correspondence for signature of superiors for procedural and governmental accuracy, punctuation, spelling, etc.
Transcribe dictation for a variety of material (e.g., correspondence, staff studies, manuals, memoranda) frequently involving use of technical medical terminology and phraseology when notes are taken without interrupting the speaker.
Determine the need for establishing new files or revising the existing file structure.
Prepare documents using word processing software (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position may be required to travel up to 5% of the time.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:1) directing phone calls or visitors to specific personnel; 2) maintaining information and files; 3) managing multiple appointments and schedules; and 4) preparing correspondence and other documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06 or equivalent).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
