About the Position: This position conducts work in a number of Environment of Care elements such as safety, fire, health and resource protection inspections/surveys, evaluations, mishap investigations, and safety training. Assist Facility Management and oversee maintenance and repair of hospital structures, equipment, systems, and grounds.

Duties

Document and review inspection finds and prepare formal reports for dissemination to eliminate hazardous operating procedures. Update and make necessary improvements to the Environment of Care Management Plans for the Hospital. Complete inspections, assessments, and evaluations to determine compliance with appropriate Air Force Occupational Safety and Health Organizations regulations. Utilize Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations standards and inspection checklists to determine compliance with conventional Occupational Safety, Fire, and Health regulations and program specific safety directives. Provide technical safety training and instruction on safety procedures to supervisors, employees, and/or unit safety representatives. Conduct security surveys of functional facilities, equipment, and operations where normal security risks are encountered to identify and resolve issues. Serve as a Contracting Officer Representative for the facilities maintenance contracts, reviewing or revising instructions/guides, plans and specifications for contracts and spot check construction sites for safety violations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or master's or equivalent graduate degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementMishap/Accident InvestigationSafety and Health Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
