The primary purpose of this position is to operate farm-type tractors over level or rolling uneven terrain to maintain road medians and perform ground maintenance. The position requires the use of motor vehicles.

Duties

Operates farm-type tractors and towed or attached equipment on .level or rolling terrain such as open fields, parks, orchards, lawns, and along roadways. Determines equipment operations for maneuvering over level or rolling terrain that are appropriate to the operating characteristics of the tractor and towed or attached equipment. Operates a variety of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, or dump trucks which typically have a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 10,000 and up to 26,000 pounds. Performs operator maintenance. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Frequently operates towed or attached equipment (e.g., mowers, aerators, plow spreaders, harrows, sprayers, post-hole diggers, front-end loading devices, backhoes and dozers. manipulating both tractor and equipment controls at the same time through hydraulic or mechanical controls on the tractor. Operates backhoes and front-end loading devices to move trees, dig ditches, unload soil, and perform other tasks associated with grounds maintenance. Operates boom slope mowers to cut grass on slopes while operating the tractor on level ground along roads. Operates tractors and equipment between shrubs and trees, along fences and curbs, in snowy or marshy areas, and in areas where tree limbs, bushes, and rocks are more likely to cause clogging or jamming of the equipment. Determines power requirements for various soil conditions and determines safe operating speeds. May accomplish related paperwork such as job and work orders. Operates a variety of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, or dump trucks which typically have a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 10,000 and up to 26,000 pounds, Transports materials and equipment primarily within the confines of a military installation or under other limited driving conditions (low speeds, regular predetermined routes, etc.). May drive over uneven terrain or unimproved roads on the installation for trips to the installation landfill or outside materials storage areas. Exercises caution when backing to load/unload at docks, ramps, or similar locations. Determines manner and sequence of loading to achieve balance and protection for fragile items. May load/unload vehicles by hand with or without assistance. May operate power take-off equipment such as hydraulic dumps or lifts. Reads installation maps and judges road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route. Maintains records and documents actions such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) 5. Ability to Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle) 6. Reliability and Dependability as a Tractor Operator (Motor Vehicle) PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.
