This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Carpentry, Painting and Masonry Shop, Office of Facilities Support Services Division. As a Carpentry, Paint, and Masonry Shop Assistant Supervisor, you will assist and share responsibility with the Supervisor in the overall supervision of Carpenters, Painters, Masonry Mechanics, Insulators, Apprentices, and Maintenance Workers.
Duties
As a Carpentry, Paint, and Masonry Shop Assistant Supervisor, you will:
Assist in directing Carpentry, Paint, and Masonry Shop functions for construction, maintenance, alteration, and repair of buildings. Oversee painting functions, masonry functions, carpentry and insulator functions that include but are not limited to sign fabrication, taping and spackling of drywall, bricklaying, limestone repair, cement work, plastering, tile setting, and pipe covering.
Prepare cost estimates on a11 major projects associated with the Carpentry, Painting and Masonry Shop regardless of whether the shop is tasked with accomplishing the work. Research catalogs and contact suppliers to obtain up to-date estimates. In addition, consider manpower and material lead times when calculating cost.
Develop and prepare schedules for Carpentry, Painting, and Masonry Shop projects. Estimate tentative start dates for projects. Monitor all projects through to completion to ensure that manpower and material are sufficient. Monitor status of various projects to ensure target dates are met.
Plan and lay out work for the Carpentry, Painting, and Masonry Shop. Coordinate jobs with other shops when necessary. Assign work to employees and issues specific or general oral or written instructions as to methods and procedures to be followed. Discuss tools, equipment and materials to be used for the satisfactory completion of the work. Use blueprints, sketches, and plans to order material and plan the work sequence of jobs. Make preliminary, progressive, and formal inspection of jobs. Order material for jobs by using a credit card, form 8516, or through a blanket purchase agreement. Monitors all purchases to ensure their timely delivery.
