About the Position: This is a Health Technician (Audiology) position located in Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Duties
Ensure test sites are adequately staffed for the mission with personnel and supplies.
Prepare documents, letters of instruction, and other correspondence regarding implementation and compliance in a time sensitive manner.
Advise the commanders/supervisors of shortfalls and/or unit program deficiencies; assist units in preparation for command inspections.
Keep manager apprised about status and progress of scheduled work and makes day to day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtains assistance from the supervisor whenever necessary.
Keep supervisor apprised about performance, progress and training needs of technicians, and any disciplinary problems as appropriate.
Assist with completion of periodic range and base camp surveys to ensure proper use of hearing protection and noise abatement strategies by units assigned to Fort Wainwright and Fort Greely
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 15 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
- Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. NOTE: Management is selecting at the GS-05 or GS-06 or GS-07 grade level. If management selects the position at the GS-05 or GS-06 grade level the incumbent maybe non-competitively be promoted to the target grade GS-07.
GS-05
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which include performing one or more of the following: (1) support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, or optometrists, (2) assisting patients with basic inquiries or care, (3) scheduling appointments for patients or customers, or (4) utilizing a healthcare software system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, Speech Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Science. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
GS-06
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing one or more of the following: (1) preparing patients for testing, (2) assisting with routine diagnostic hearing tests, (3) performing administrative support functions such as medical data entry, scheduling patient appointments, or maintaining electronic medical records, or (4) support duties to health personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Speech Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Science. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
GS-07
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing one or more of following: (1) administering hearing assessments or testing, (2) counseling and educating patients with basic audiology information, (3) fitting patients with hearing devices, (4) reviewing audiograms to determine if follow-ups are needed, or (5) inputting or retrieving or maintaining audiology records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Speech Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Science. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
