The New Mexico VA Healthcare Network is recruiting for a Supervisory Social Worker (Assistant Chief). The incumbent functions as the section Chief for Outpatient Programs that include PACT, Military to VA, Intimate Partner Violence Prevention Program, and Care Coordination and Integrated Case Management; Inpatient and Medical Specialty Programs such as the Emergency Department, Hematology and Oncology, Renal/Dialysis; transplant; and HIV social workers.

Duties

Duties include, but not limited to: Provide administrative and technical supervision to staff as assigned. Set priorities and make assignments according to capabilities of employees. Make selections for service level positions. Hear grievance and serious employee complaints. Coordinate, develop, and provide a variety of staff development programs, education, and training resources to a wide spectrum of staff. Serve the Medical Center at large in a variety of capacities, such as committee assignments, investigations, personnel matters, and special projects. Responsible for preparation of reports; and budget planning. Brief management on regular basis concerning matters to social worker and program oversight. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Master's degree in social work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for master's degree in social work. Licensure: Must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: You must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to: Serving as a full assistant to the chief social work service for both administrative and professional practice of a small to moderately complex social work service within a healthcare organization; responsible for supporting clinical practice, program management, education, human resource management and supervision, and organizational stewardship for the social work program per the direction of the chief. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in administration, demonstrating progressively more professional competency skills and judgment. In addition to the experience above, you must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of administrative and supervisory duties which includes personnel actions, clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments, and quality improvement. Knowledge of legal, ethical, and professional standards applicable to social work practice. Ability to develop, maintain, and oversee social work programs in all settings. Knowledge of social work practice, policy, and accreditation standards across the continuum of health care. Skill in providing consultation to facility leadership, managers, and other staff on social work qualification standards, practice, competency, productivity, and continuing education requirements. Physical Requirements: Work is sedentary but also demands standing, walking, bending, twisting, and carrying light items.
