The primary purpose of this position is To serve as a senior Air Force analyst, providing professional and scientific expertise in performance of work requiring knowledge and application of engineering, mathematics, statistical analysis, modeling/simulation, and/or other scientific principles, methods, and techniques.
Duties
1. Performs a broad range of analyses and/or engineering assignments entailing unique problems, creativity, innovative use of techniques, advance approaches and or new technology
2. Utilizes scientific inquiry in the independent development of policy, guidance, and integration initiatives to support assigned projects, studies, or problems.
3. As a recognized expert provides technical guidance, advisory support, lead and assistance on projects and/or major phases for broad and varied operations.
4. Directs and/or participates as a subject matter authority in various advisory committees, technical review boards, and/or other meetings related to area of expertise; and may participate in relevant technical committees, conferences and symposia sponsored by DoD, national level agencies, or private sector activities related to assigned project/study, planning, advance technologies, and support system concepts.
5. Accomplishes professional development and maintains technical proficiency through professional interaction with technical and professional societies, associations, academia, symposia, contractors, research and development organizations, and participation in formal training programs

Positions which perform information security as an inherent, primary purpose of their position: Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
Positions designated as an acquisition position: Positions are covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) and the employee must meet, or be capable of meeting, Defense Acquisition Work Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the duties of the position.
Incumbent may be subject to periodic polygraph testing.
Must have a bachelor's degree computer science.
A master's degree in a technical related field is highly desired

Basic Requirement GS-1550 Computer Scientist: A Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. Specialized Experience: Applicants must have the quality level of experience, which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. My experience includes knowledge of engineering, mathematics, statistical analysis, modeling /simulation, and/or other scientific concepts, principles, standards, methods, techniques, practices, and procedures; knowledge and understanding of national -level doctrine, regulations, policies, guidelines, requirements, and initiatives; and knowledge of security procedures to maintain control of classified material. Note: You must submit a copy of official transcripts / Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Professional knowledge and mastery of a broad range of engineering, mathematics, statistical analysis, modeling/simulation, and/or other scientific concepts, principles, standards, methods, techniques, practices, and procedures.
2. Knowledge of agency, AF, DoD and national-level doctrine, regulations, policies, guidelines, requirements, and initiatives related to assigned program(s) and/or project(s).
3. Knowledge of security procedures to maintain control of classified material
4. Skill, judgment, resourcefulness, originality, and ability to foresee the impact of changing technology and in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to identify, investigate, and resolve complex issues or problems.
5. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships, negotiating complex issues, and resolving conflicts based on mature judgment, experience, and recognized professional standing.
6. Ability to effectively organize and analyze information; produce authoritative reports, position papers, and briefings that are responsive to the specific needs of commanders and senior management officials; present clear and concise findings; and effectively advocate for a position
Work Environment
The employee typically works in an adequately lighted and ventilated office environment unless the employed is deployed. Special safety equipment, as required, must be worn.

1. Position is designated critical-sensitive and incumbent must be able to obtain and retain a security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). A non-disclosure agreement must be signed.
2. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
3. The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
4. Must have a bachelor's degree in a related discipline such as computer or electronics engineering, computer science, or mathematics. 5. A master's degree in a technically-related field is highly desired.
6. Employee is expected to meet Continuing Acquisition Education requirements within 24 months of employment.
7. Employee must meet or be capable of meeting Defense Acquisition Work Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the position.
