This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Operations Manager. Technical guidance is available from the Regional Coordinator of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
Duties
Performs original organization and modified cataloging of archival materials and archeological associated documentation.
Organizes (classifies) and catalogs materials to make them accessible to users through automated finding aids in a variety of formats.
Maintains naming and numbering control of records. Plans and prepares detailed inventories and finding aids, as well as other descriptive analyses of assigned archival records.
Assists with the electronic document systems, the archival preservation of electronic media, and applicable professional standards for these materials.
Makes recommendations as to preservation techniques required. Plans and arranges for digitization assigned records.
Develops databases and archival finding aids to meet user needs.
Prepares exhibits of documents, photographs, maps, and other archival material.
Writes detailed reports for completed assessments, including budget and schedule estimates based on the provided recommendations.
Generates and maintains narrative and statistical data relating to Archives operations to track metrics and progress.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- 25% TDY travel may be required.
- Requires possession of or ability to acquire a valid state driver’s license. ( Please provide a copy)
- Work requires some physical exertion, which requires the ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in archival science; or bachelor's degree (or higher degree) with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: At least 30 semester hours of courses, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Acceptable experience must have been in archival science, or in a directly related field of work such as history that involved the collection, appraisal, analysis, or synthesis of information having historical or archival values.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes a good knowledge of basic archival principles, concepts, methods and procedures, historical research methodology, the values of various types of records for administrative, legal and research use, the subject-matter content, arrangement and interrelationships of the records worked with, and the history, structure and functions of the agency producing those records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
