The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Child Development support assistant, assist in the day to day clerical operations of the Child Development Center. The position develops, implements, and administers clerical aspects of the Child Development Center that aids in providing an overall safe and healthy environment for children and staff.
Duties
Performs clerical and administrative support of the office/organization.
Prepares a wide variety of internal/external correspondence and reports.
Uses multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents that often require complex formats, such as graphics or tables within text, editing and reformatting electronic drafts, and updating or revising existing databases or spreadsheets.
Demonstrates proper work procedures, promoting teamwork and serving as an intermediary between the Director and front desk staff, while receiving telephone calls, greeting children, parents and visitors.

- Skills of fully qualified typist are required. The incumbent must have the ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM

- Employee must successfully complete training requirements identified for the position, such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid

- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours
- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
- Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of child care programs and procedures related to Child Development and Youth operations; knowledge of the organizational functions and services to answer inquiries or refer to the responsible staff member; knowledge of administrative policies or regulations to maintain files or records and perform clerical assignments; knowledge of duties, priorities, commitments, policies, and program goals of the organization sufficient to perform non-routine assignments, such as independently noting and following up on commitments made at meetings/conferences, advising others on preparing correspondence, requirements for various reports, and interpreting new instructions and procedures. Verifying classroom staff accurately document and report number of meals served daily. Ensuring bank deposits are accurate and made in a timely manner.

EDUCATION: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.
OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of the substantive programs of the organization as they relate to administrative and clerical support functions.
Knowledge of clerical practices and office routines to coordinate the work of the office.
Knowledge of safety and training procedures.
Knowledge of the duties, priorities and policies of the CDC to perform non-routine assignments such as independently shifting clerical staff in response to fluctuating workloads, advising other clerical staff on preparing reports, requirements for various reports, filing systems and proper money handling techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of PC's and skill in the use of various software to accomplish the administrative work of the unit. A qualified typist is required.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with tact and courtesy.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
