You will serve as a LEAD INDUSTRIAL HYGIENST of NMRTC QUANTICO VA at Washington Navy Yard, Washington, DC.
THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1109 of the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2020 Public Law 116-92 amended Section 9905 of title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.) to streamline Department of Defense civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service in the Department of Defense.
Duties
You will conduct written industrial hygienist surveys of DOD military activities, offices, and medical facilities.
You will examine physical and chemical hazards to include noise, ergonomics, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous materials, luminescence, temperature and extreme humidity.
You will prepare exposure Monitoring Plans (EMP) utilizing the Defense Occupational Environmental and Health Readiness System (DOEHRS) program.
You will track EMP progress for quarterly and annual metrics.
You will develop new control measures to abate the hazards encountered in cost effective ways.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience developing objectives for an industrial hygiene program.
Experience analyzing scientific/technical information and developing an innovative solution to industrial hygiene problems.
Experience reviewing facility development plans to ensure compliance with occupational health standards.
Experience developing and managing spreadsheets and databases.
Experience delivering oral briefings, presentations and training to all levels of personnel.
Experience writing technical reports, instructions and recommendations in clear and concise form.

Education
Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess.
- A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
- A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
- Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH).
Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
