This position is located in the Policy, Planning, and Evaluation Branch (PPEB), Office of Strategic Planning, Initiative Development, and Analysis (OSPIDA), Office of Science Management and Operations (OSMO), Office of the Director (OD), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

Duties

As a Supervisory Health Science Policy Analyst, some of your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: Provide expert advice to the PPEB Chief, and the Director, OSPIDA, as well as other senior Institute officials, in formulating Institute goals, objectives, and strategies covering all science research and clinical programs for which the Institute is responsible. Monitor the implementation of selected legislation and program initiatives, and identifies and advises the PPEB Chief and senior staff on how selected legislation might impact current or planned NIAID research. Assist the PPEB Chief and the OSPIDA Director in managing NIAID-wide scientific activities, including institute reporting efforts, review of scientific policies, annual planning, as well as strategic initiative efforts set forth by the NIH Office of Portfolio Analysis and Strategic Initiatives (OPASI). Represent NIAID to a wide range of officials in the scientific, advocacy, and policy-making communities. Planning, assigning, and directing the work to be accomplished by subordinates and ensuring timely performance of satisfactory amounts and quality of work.

Qualifications

You qualify for the Supervisory Health Science Policy Analyst GS-601-14 level, you meet the following qualification requirements: Education Requirement: You must have a Bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained). Additional Qualifications: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-13) in the Federal Service obtained in either the private or public sector that equips me with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position, such as the following: developing and coordinating science policy and program planning for a biomedical research organization; developing strategic plans and program assessments for scientific research programs; coordinating with other staff and organizations on science policy, evaluation, and legislative activities; and advising on the development of action plans to ensure the integration of program resources.
