About the Position: This position is in the Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms with the Directorate of Clinical Support Division. Twentynine Palms is the home of Joshua Tree National Park Headquarters and Main Park Entrance and proud host of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, the world's largest Marine Corps training base. The city is renowned for murals and artists, supportive business climate, beautiful natural surroundings, desert and mountain vistas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Perform various screenings, such as vision, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and electrocardiograms (EKGs). Verify and order all indicated laboratory studies, x-rays, immunizations, and other ancillary tests as appropriate. Utilize Automated systems to schedule patient appointment and/routine physical exams. Refer abnormal vital signs and screenings to an Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) or provider for evaluation. Review completed physical examinations for completeness and accuracy using instructions and ensuring documentation meets rigorous quality control standards. Document pertinent data in the medical record and on other documents, as appropriate for the examination being performed. Responsible for the safe and effective operation of medical equipment and contribute to a safe working environment. Provide administrative support such as patient scheduling and coordination of pre-placement and routine physical exams. Ordering and receiving supplies and equipment

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • This position requires an Audiometry certification within the first year of hire.
  • This position requires a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Spirometry certification within the first year of hire.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-05 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes the ability to provide customer service and operate automated systems using a computer. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes assisting medical personnel with various healthcare screenings; scheduling patient appointments; and utilizing an automated medical information system used in patient/employee healthcare. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). GS-06 - You must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted for GS-06.
