About the Position: Responsible for the Environmental Services Branch (ESB) activities and is a full deputy to the Chief, ESB. The supervisor outlines overall objectives, discusses immediate and long-range plans and anticipates major mission changes in the hospital housekeeping program at Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC), Dental Command (DENTAC), Veterinary Command (VETCOM), Dental Clinics, Troop Medical Clinics, Warrior Transition Battalion. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Supervise the civilians in the housekeeping and linen sections of Environmental Services Branch. Assist in advising management on matters pertaining to housekeeping environmental conditions and sanitation requirements. Assist in maintaining and certifying all budget requirements. Assure that hospital personnel adapt to practices that will contribute to a biologically sound and clean environment. Selectee will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. Must be in good standing of the American Society of Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES). Become certified in Hazardous Materials through the US Center for Health Promotion and Preventative Medicine and recertify every two years. All of these except REH will be supported by Womack Army Medical Center and must be achieved within 12 months.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Incumbent must be able to Travel for Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to wear protective equipment, eig., respirators, safety glasses, etc.
  • Shift work is required in this position as well as work on weekends and holidays.
  • Mission Essential position.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing hospital's Healthcare Environmental Services contract; managing hospitals linen distribution and contracts; and monitoring hospital's regulated medical waste and recycling programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: public health or environmental services. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
