The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Museum Curator for the Enlisted Heritage Hall (EHH) museum to conduct research/archive historical information for the Enlisted Heritage Research Institute (EHRI), and Administers and performs professional work related to enlisted aerospace research, collections, and exhibits.

Duties

Responsible for conducting all enlisted Army-Air Corps and USAF historical research. Responsible for management, artifact inventory, and care of the Enlisted Heritage Hall (EHH). Responsible for locating and acquiring enlisted historical artifacts, and other major exhibit materials for the Enlisted Heritage Hall (EHH). Develops and writes storylines for specific portions of special displays and overall exhibit program. Conducts outreach to preserve our rich Air Force history by honoring enlisted heroes, past and present.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, and Professional and Scientific Positions. GS-1015 Museum Curator Series. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Degree: museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes professional knowledge of a wide range of museum curator, management and program concepts, principles, and practices as they apply to conducting research, presenting exhibits, and the care and handling of historical items; knowledge of museum procedures, necessary techniques, and required tools and materials; knowledge of public museum administration that includes identification, acquisition, registration, cataloging, de-accessioning, conservation, and preservation techniques related to collection and selection of artifacts, exhibit design and interpretation, and volunteer management; knowledge of historical research sources and methods required to maintain the historical integrity of museum collections and exhibits. Note: You must submit a copy of official transcripts. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: In-depth, professional knowledge of a wide range of museum management, curator, programs, concepts, principles, and practices as they apply to conducting research, building exhibits, and the care and handling of historical items. Knowledge of a wide range fundamental principles, concepts, and methodologies of collection management procedures. Knowledge of museum procedures, necessary techniques, and required tools and materials. Knowledge of records management techniques and computer database management. Knowledge of museum administration concepts that include identification, acquisition, registration, de-accessioning, cataloging, conservation, and preservation techniques related to collection and selection of artifacts, exhibit design and interpretation, and volunteer management. Knowledge of historical research sources and methods required to maintain the historical integrity of museum collections and exhibits. Knowledge of AFI 84-103, and applicable Federal Statues, DoD, USAF regulations, DRMO procedures and internal museum guidelines involving property identification, accountability , control and disposition. Skill in designing and conducting comprehensive studies and research regarding historical information as it relates to aerospace topics of the USAF. Skills to effectively design, display, and present exhibits in a manner that adheres to accepted agency and national museum of the United States Air Force standards. Ability to present oral and written information in a logical, clear, and concise manner for public audiences with differing levels of comprehension. Ability to effectively prepare official written communication and staff packages. Ability to perform research required to document and preserve historical presentations or events. Knowledge and skill in the proper handling of objects and materials and damage prevention methods for movement and storage of delicate, rare and historic artifacts, including routine conservation techniques. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act requires federal agencies to treat an eligible active duty service member as a veteran, disabled veteran, and preference eligible (as applicable) when applying for civil service positions before the effective release or discharge date. Appointment of military members before the release or discharge date is permissible if the member is on terminal leave. At the time the active duty member applies for a civil position, he or she must submit a "certification" memo in lieu of a DD-Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty.
