This position is located at the Fort Thompson Indian Health Center, Fort Thompson, SD. The position will serve as the Director of the Behavioral Health Department, which provides comprehensive behavioral/mental health services to pediatric, adolescent, adult and elderly patients and comprehensive outpatient alcohol/drug treatment services.
Duties
Provides supervision and on the job training for the Behavioral Health staff as signed to the Service Unit and assists in their career development by developing appropriate educational training plans.
Responds to consults/referrals regarding patients' medical social services/discharge planning needs within 24 hours of receiving referral.
Provides collaborative services through case management for patients whose health conditions require multiple hospitalizations, specialized care or other supportive community placements.
Works with patient population in providing direct patient care that addresses their relationships, the effects of their illness on the same, promotes wellness, addressing the needs of the patient and their family, promoting a holistic approach to medicine, while serving as a patient advocate and liaison between patient, family, medical staff and local programs.
Performs a mental status evaluation on all new patients as appropriate. Completing psychosocial assessments for walk-in and referred patients in a timely manner, formulating treatment plans with an emphasis on the persons' long term, optimal health outcomes.

Individual Occupational Requirements
Basic Requirements
Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Examples of Specialized Experience:
Experience providing administrative supervision for behavioral health staff to ensure compliance with accrediting bodies; responsible for the coordination of a comprehensive mental health program, providing evidenced based treatment to individuals, couples, and families; providing leadership in the development of policies and procedures.
Selective Placement Factor:
Must have current unrestricted License as a Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health (LPC-MH) or equivalent licensure. (Must submit copy of licensure with application)
