The USD(A&S) is the principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense on all matters regarding acquisition and sustainment of the capability to the Warfighter. This position serves as a senior Life Cycle Logistician developing, coordinating, implementing, and executing actionable Regional Sustainment Strategy opportunities for International and Strategic Logistics initiatives with Allies and Partner Nations, Military Department, and Industry (US and Partner Nations).

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following:
The incumbent will be responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing, and executing actionable Regional Sustainment Strategy (RSS) opportunities in support of integrating all tools of national power with the robust network of allies and partners, Industry, and the Services that the U.S. has to credibly deter aggression, also known as "Integrated deterrence".
Frequently engages Operational Headquarters, the Services, and other Departments and Agencies, and as an active participant in developing policy and plans as it relates to logistics operations in support of on-going operations or planning for future contingency operations.
Develops executable plans and actions for all logistics aspects of contingency and regional sustainment operations (deployment, redeployment/drawdown and post conflict).
The incumbent will be expected to connect operational and tactical level actions with overall Department level strategic implications.
The conduct of duties requires access to special sensitive information. In addition to operational logistics, the incumbent will possess an understanding of international logistics processes and policies from front end concept exploration through translation into RSS plans, policy guidance, delivery, and support to the implementation of DoD components worldwide.

- This position is authorized for telework, but with supervisor coordination and approval

You may qualify at the NH-04 (GS-14/15) level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH-03 (GS-13) grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to:
Analyze, develop, prepare, coordinate, staff, and implement life cycle logistics policies and procedures, programs, directives to enable readiness, effective, and affordable sustainment.
Utilizes the 12 Integrated Product Support Elements and Life Cycle Sustainment planning and execution to include the development of Life Cycle Sustainment Strategies and Plans.
Manages international logistics, bilateral/multilateral agreements, inter-agency collaborations, and multi-national partnerships and coalitions.
Technical/functional understanding of the Department of Defense PPBE process, including the POM cycle, and the use of RDT&E, Procurement, and O&M funds.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
