This position is a Medical Technician (Lab) located at the Crow Service Unit, Indian Health Service, Crow Agency, MT. This position reports to the Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist or designee.
Duties
Performs a wide range of clinical laboratory tests/examinations per requests by medical staff for use in clinical diagnosis, patient screening, monitoring patient therapy and status and other authorized purposes.
Instruct patients and/or hospital personnel in the collection, preservation, and transport of specimens. Provides guidance, direction and training to ancillary technicians and other personnel when designated as "in charge" of assigned sections/specializations.
Performs preventive maintenance, periodic inspection, and performance testing of equipment and instruments together with the maintenance of appropriate records.
Performance of laboratory procedures which involves implementing new methods by performing, evaluating, and modifying any method not currently carried out in the laboratory.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-06, Medical Technician
One year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: A working knowledge of the methods, techniques and practices appropriate to medical technology and their practical application to clinical laboratory work. Skill in calibrating and operating analytical instruments sufficient to independently perform recurring tests and analyses. Understanding of related disciplines such as microbiology, chemistry, physiology, anatomy and their relationship to medical technology.
GS-07, Medical Technician
One year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: A thorough understanding and extensive knowledge of the methods, techniques and practices appropriate to medical technology and their practical application to clinical laboratory work. Skill in calibrating and operating analytical instruments sufficient to independently perform recurring tests and analyses. Understanding of related disciplines such as microbiology, chemistry, physiology, anatomy and their relationship to medical technology. The ability to work independently of direct supervision on-call and the evening, night shifts and/or on the weekends. OR completed 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-07 grade level.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
