This position is located in Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC), Asset Logistics Division (ALD), Logistics Supply Support Branch, in Baltimore, Maryland.

Duties

This position is located in the ICP Operations Section with the primary role of performing the full range of transportation services to include determining all method/mode of shipments.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.Typical work assignments include:- Rating and routing parcels and freight shipments using specific established guidelines.- Preparing and processing shipping documents by annotating them with mode of transportation, date, estimated charges, and other applicable data.- Planning and effecting movement of general stores, ship parts, ordnance, hazardous materials, electronic and aviation parts, as well as classified and sensitive materials.- Advising others on the appropriate freight classifications involving non-routine transactions.- Verifying and posting of all obligations for transportation costs.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must successfully complete HAZMAT Material Shipment Certification
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

TO QUALIFY FOR GS-07: Candidates must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience includes:  Experience investigating and gathering facts relating to each discrepancy in shipment to support government claims against the carrier. Experience with maintaining logs, records, and reports and preparing Government Bills of Lading. Experience receiving routine shipping requests and assembling requests by destinations, appropriations chargeable, and condition of commodities; contacting carrier to arrange cargo pick-up requirements such as specialized equipment, time, location, and delivery date. Knowledge of classifying each commodity specifically described by carrier publications and other published freight classification guides, and/or checking shipping documents, weight certificates, and signatures for obvious freight classification errors and shipment discrepancies.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
