Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, Blaine Sector Intelligence Unit, Blaine Station, located in Blaine WA.

Duties

This position starts at a salary of $54,896.00 (GS-07, Step 1) to $71,366.00 (GS-07, Step 10) with promotion potential to $150,535.00 (GS-13 Step 10). In this Intelligence Research Specialist position, you will become a key member of the U.S. Border Patrol, Blaine Sector Intelligence Unit performing the below typical work assignments: Providing the CBP Intelligence Enterprise and operational stakeholders with intelligence products that inform and enhance their ability to make strategic, operational, and tactical decisions in support of CBP operations directed at threats to border security. Performing analysis, evaluation, interpretation and dissemination of information and intelligence. Executing intelligence processes across all phases of the CBP intelligence cycle such as planning and direction, collecting, processing and exploiting, analyzing and producing, and disseminating. Assessing and validating intelligence on measures of relevance, timeliness, and objectivity, and prepare professional intelligence reports for briefing and dissemination across the organization.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing assistance to senior specialists in gathering and analyzing information and intelligence data from a variety of sources such as intelligence reports and various databases to develop trends, patterns, profiles, estimates, and studies. Processing and evaluating volumes of intelligence information from a variety of sources. Identifying and recommending solutions to analytical problems and disseminate intelligence products using prescribed methods. Education Substitution:GS-07: Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the skills necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours. OR GS-07: Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) may also substitute for the experience required at this level. SAA is defined as a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, having a class standing in the upper third of a graduating class or major subdivision, or membership in a national scholastic honor society. If your education is currently described in quarter hours, multiply by the fraction 2/3 to convert into semester hours then divide the semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total months of experience by the required number of months of experience. Add your percentages together. The total must equal at least 100% in order to qualify. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 07/18/2024.
