About the Position: This position is located in the Laundry, Base Operations Medical Installation, Naval Medical Center, serving as a working leader handling all types of hospital linen, which include, stenciling, sorting, folding, stacking, receiving orders by phone, making up laundry lists, filling orders, delivering clean linen, collecting and weighing soiled linen, conducting daily and quarterly inventories and general housekeeping tasks for the cleanliness of the working area, as required.

Duties

Relay instructions from the Supervisor to Laundry Workers to begin daily assigned tasks. Assure needed materials are available and that needed stock ins obtained from supply locations. Check work in progress and when complete to assure the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. Uncrate, sort, and stencil new line for issue. Sort, fold, and stock linen. Establish and maintain allowances and usage and determined realistic requirements when requisitioning replace linen and equipment. Conduct quarterly inventories on all hospital linen items. Collect soiled linen over established route throughout the Hospital Compound which includes loading soiled linen carts with bags of soiled linen weighing up to 75 pounds each for transport to the Soiled Linen Room. Visually examine items for contamination, list, damage, or excessive wear. Prepare Discrepancy Report for the Supervisor on damaged, worn or contaminated linen as well as differences in count versus list.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Pre-employment physical required.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations and Tuberculin testing unless exempt by physician.
  • This position may be considered Mission Essential position. Employee is required to remain in place or report for duty during inclement weather conditions or other appropriate emergency conditions.
  • The incumbent will be required to work rotating shifts to provide shift work coverage for weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Laundry Worker Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to Lead or Supervise. I have the ability to perform common tasks in assigning workers instructions received from the supervisor. I can operate motor vehicle duties by driving a truck equipped with a power tailgate to deliver clean linen and pick up soiled linen from assigned clinics. I can operate laundry equipment such as hand irons, weigh scales and hand trucks. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Must be capable of lifting and carrying linen bags weighing up to 75 pounds. Must be able to pull and push loaded carts of clean and/ or soiled linen weighing up to 1,100 pounds. All physical efforts demands the continuous coordination and the movement of hands, arms, legs, and feet with occasional physical strain exercised in the process of pushing, pulling, and lifting heavy objects. Working Conditions: Personnel will be required to work on assignments that include periodic exposure to seasonal weather and interior areas that may or may not be air-conditioned.
