Duties
Adhere to work safety procedures and regulations.
Perform general housekeeping tasks.
Clean rust and/or grease from parts or equipment.
Assist crew members with mechanical repairs.
Use snagging poles to locate snags, wrecks, or other sunken objects.
Dismantle and assemble equipment and make adjustments as directed
Rig loads for lifting by crane on a motor vessel.
Fasten and unfasten hooks, chains, and cable for lifting by crane.
Handle and fasten lines and towing cables to secure craft.
Use simple trade tools such as saw, hacksaw, drill, wrench, and hammer to perform duties or repairs.
Repair various items such as doors, screens, woodwork, and plumbing.
Repair holes and crevices with putty to prepare for painting.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position meets the criteria for random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 7412.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) for XF-5788-06: Ability to do the work of a Deckhand without more than normal supervision. The incumbent must have the ability to perform have the ability to perform common Deckhand tasks including performing general housekeeping tasks aboard a floating plant, and use a hose to wash vessel, deck, and clean mud or other debris from barges.. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Heavy physical effort is required in assisting in pile driving and performing deckhand duties. Continuously stands, walks, bends, reaches, and climbs. Carries objects such as cables, rope, containers of grease, paint, etc. weighing up to fifty pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works over and around water aboard floating plant. Exposed to cuts, bruises, slips, falls, burns, or injury from moving parts of equipment.
