About the Position: Serve as the technical explosives safety specialist governing the implementation of a comprehensive Explosive Safety Management Program for all activities within the command. Provides continuous monitoring of the program to determine compliance with established policies and regulations and to determine the need for corrective actions and identify areas where improvements can be made.

Duties

Develops explosives safety policy governing occupational safety criteria, guidelines, standards, etc., affecting many varied organizations, occupational and subject matter areas. Coordinates, plans, and schedules Explosives surveys for the command and arranges entrance and exit briefings with the director and appropriate activity chiefs or commander. Works in concert with major/direct command and support elements with respect to Class V activities and training exercises. Establishes priorities and monitors execution of major projects. Monitors work areas and evaluates activities with known safety problems as indicated by a high record of work injuries, or a variety of hazardous operations and environmental conditions and processes. Prepares information governing mishap prevention and develops regulations and training material. Research standards/regulations, conducts special studies in complex areas and provides guidance on safety requirements for new or complex activities on FWA and JBER.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Employee must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check.
  • Official Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) up to 25% or more of the time may be required.
  • This position requires in-frequent deployment, under field conditions, not under field conditions, and to various sites within the Alaska AOR, the USARPAC AOR/Worldwide, NTC, and JRTC.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a deployment physical examination.
  • This position is considered essential to support Army's mobilization and wartime mission during periods of increasing tension or mobilization. It is considered emergency essential.
  • Incumbent must be able to qualify in personal chemical protection and use of any required personal protective gear.
  • Incumbent may be required to qualify with 9mm side arm and/or M4.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle driver's license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
