About the Position: As security assistant, incumbent is responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments. Operates and performs research queries on the NCIC National Crime Information Center (NCIC/NCCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws. Assignments range from routine inquiries and research requests involving different and unrelated steps and processes.

Duties

Enter applicant registration information into computerized databases according to security procedures. Accommodate visitors and direct them to proper areas or office throughout the installation, ensuring that required identification criteria and security protocols are met. Deny access to unauthorized personnel or those or those who do not meet authorized entry criteria. Responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments. Screen all employees, visitors, consultants, and contractor personnel daily, exercising patience, discretion, and diplomacy to determine status of an individual and reason for and location of visit. Interpret results of background and security screening to determine eligibility for access to installation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • Clerical duties require the services of a fully qualified typist to provide office automation (OA) support services to the staff.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
